    Project: Jackdaw4 Album Cover
    Skills: Design
    Tools: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign

Brief: The band, Jackdaw4, wanted their album covers to feature insects, and with their 2nd full-length release they wanted to depict bipolar disease in a soulless society. I split the design into three styles, the background was the grey industrial machine created in Illustrator; the wasp was hand drawn; and the inspiration for the dreamlike butterfly came from 60's artist Alan Aldridge, which was done completely in Photoshop.

    Tools: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign

Brief: Jackdaw4's record label wanted to put out the first two albums on double vinyl with a gatefold sleeve with the artwork needed yesterday. With no brief and little time, I took some photos of a pair of Elvis-style glasses that the lead singer wore onstage, superimposing both covers on the lenses. My working title for layout and font approval also ended up being used as the actual name of the album.

Brief: UK-based MaKing Records commissioned me to design their upcoming releases, though specializing in theatrical recordings they wanted to avoid all the obvious cliches and go with something a bit fresher. For my first design, I took the concept of mixing the typography of Saul Bass and the look of silkscreen rock posters.

  • Too Many Robots

    Date: 2010
    Project: Album cover
    Skills: Design
    Tools: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign

Brief: Continuing the band's obsession with arthropods, this time wanting to feature a lone dung beetle pushing a ball of dung, representing the struggle. Using the iconic photo "Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima" as an influence, hand drawn beetle and dung ball were created over a couple of nights taking snaps of some magnificent Wisconsin sunsets which were all later manipulated in Photoshop.
